wienarchitektur.at The aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside project is one of Europe’s biggest urban development ventures. On this former airfield, a new urban quarter offering 20,000 workplaces and housing for another 20,000 residents is to emerge until 2028. The centre of the Urban Lakeside is formed by a large lake set in the midst of a spacious park. Although the first residents will not move in before late 2014, the U2 Vienna Underground line was extended already in 2013 to this huge area, where identity-fostering activities take place regularly even before the arrival of the first Lakesiders.
