open house wien Brick 5 – an association for the advancement of multimedia art and technology – is located in the middle of the 15th district. Before World War II, this area – and with it, the building at Fünfhausengasse 5 – was a pulsating centre for the Jewish community. Now, a cultural space has been created here: Concerts, theatre performances, and exhibits regularly take place. Especially supporting young artists is one of the main goals of Brick 5’s operators. The ground floor, which used to be the former Jewish gymnastics club’s gym and spans over 100 square metres, now harbours a large bar. A pea peeling factory was once located one floor above. The large factory windows along its entire length are reminiscent of its original usage. The operator of Brick 5, who lives in the same building, made a point to preserve the brick building’s industrial patina.
