open house wien The low building looks as if it were made from one piece. It almost seems like a sculpture and, when you first look at it, doesn’t really resemble a church – especially since there’s no steeple. Nevertheless, you can feel that this house, located in the midst of suburban villas, isn’t a residential building. The determining factor for this impression is the building material “Technolith”, exposed concrete that has recycled foam glass gravel added to it. It gives the sacred building a bright and welcoming feeling. Thanks to half-storey offset rooms, the building also offers lots of room beyond the actual church interior. This gives the hallway- and staircase area, from which almost all building areas are visible, a communicative function. The garden is partially lowered. The ceiling-high window façade and a terrace door connect it at ground level to the church hall inside.
gebaut The building for the New Apostolic Church was designed as a signature volume with strong urbanistic effect. The sculptural approach with very decisive apertures is emphasised by the lightweight concrete construction. The volume appears as one, seamless whole. This sculptural architecture re-interprets the historic concept of the “church with spire” and is clearly identifiable as a sacred building.
