Positioned at a very prominent location in the urban fabric, the building is extended upwards to accentuate the block edge development. As it rises upwards the shape ofthe volume responds to its urban surroundings. The lower storeys cantilever towards the forecourt, while the upper part of the building is cut away to allow sufficient light to reach the houses opposite and is shifted forwards in the direction of the Gürtel ring road. Appropriately for this location the building combines different functions. It is an office block up to the eighth floor with apartments on the storeys above.

The “Hotel Hernalser Hof” on the “Gürtel” used to stand here. Now the distinctive two-storey office and apartment building can be seen as the entryway to the pulsating quarter around the “Yppenplatz” and “Brunnenmarkt”: Its form references the surrounding street routes and takes the incidence of light for neighbouring houses into account. The façade has an interesting design as well: It is decorated with bronze-coloured, perforated aluminum sheets with dark aluminum panels beneath. The perforation spans the entire façade like an extensive pattern. This allows for a different appearance depending on the visual angle. Three of the upper floors house apartments. They each feature a loggia that can be used year-round. Its elliptical shape extends into the room. This creates a division in the room, but the fact that it is made entirely of glass visually cancels out this impression.

This location enjoys a very particular position within the urban fabric: it occupies an outstanding spot within the cityscape, caps off an urban block and is also remarkable because of its height. The volume, designed according to architectural and urban design principles, is enveloped in a uniform, generously dimensioned window grid. The bronze-coloured aluminium façade panels cover the building with a large-dimensioned, punctured pattern.
