This one-kilometre-long, relatively narrow “superblock" is emblematic of the Social Democratic housing estate of 1920s to 1930s Vienna. The elongated façade fronts of the monumental main volume hide numerous small and very small flats (originally, there were 1,382 for roughly 5,500 inhabitants). High archways open to a greened interior courtyard with former common facilities, such as a bathhouse and washhouse.
